Multifaceted artist, Mounir Fatmi (Tangier, Morocco, 1970) constantly relates to current issues such as identity, multiculturalism, the ambiguities of power and violence.
Over the years it has managed to constantly renew itself, exploring a wide variety of stylistic languages ranging from video installation, from photography to performance. His is a narrative path that in addition to confirming a remarkable lexical ability, Mix ingredients in personal testimonies of real, tracing important passages in contemporary history.
The sample milanese, entitled "Transition State", retraces the distinctive features of his vast poetic synthesis, placing the emphasis on the concept of cultural "hybridization", a combination of preconceptions and stereotypes revealed and then discredited, which reinforce an overall vision built on dialogue between religion, science, the ambivalences of language and how these are transformed in the course of history.
Very well known internationally, Mounir Fatmi is among the protagonists of the Venice Biennale 2017 with a double participation in the Tunisian Pavilion, within the exhibition "The Absence of Paths", e al NSK State Pavilion. Called to exhibit in prestigious museums such as the Center Georges Pompidou, il Brooklyn Museum, the Victoria & Albert Museum, the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo, or the MAXXI in Rome, his works are part of large public collections such as those of the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, the Louis Vuitton Foundation for the creation of Parigi o il Mathaf, Arab Museum of Modern Art in Doha.
