In the paintings of Matthias Brandes does not exist a linear conception of time, punctuated by a succession of unique and unrepeatable events irreversible; does not exist because the pictures do not live storytelling and history. There is no beginning and no end, nothing happens that has not already happened as in a classical myth from cyclical time.
The metaphysical space of the paintings is hanging in the dream. Case, ships, still lifes "locked" in a context that does not belong - in the most different occasions - create a harmony within the work that can be perceived in the subjectivity of contemplation.
