Ettore Frani. Mending the sky

Mending the sky is the catalog of the exhibition of the same name at the Nuova Galleria Morone in Milan, 6 April – 1 June 2017.

The exhibition, created specifically for the gallery spaces, is composed of the last cycle of works through which the artist, as always in his pictorial research, investigates the face and mystery of Nature, with which man has always been in communion. As Frani himself says, it is precisely in it that man sees his own material and spiritual component reflected, better than anything else, it can give us back the sense of our being in the world.

In this solo show, Frani deepens the pictorial direction of his language, working on some fundamental elements that always accompany him: man in relationship and conflict between nature and spirit, painting as glazing, revelation and waiting for the image, the aesthetic intent as an ethical message. It's from the contingent, from the more concrete world, the artist suggests to us, that what is most subtle and spiritual passes.

All the paintings that compose Mending the sky they are interconnected and reveal hidden correspondences where man and nature, earth and sky, micro and macrocosm create a sort of breath, a dance that vibrates between light and gravity, where the ascending and descending movement becomes a simultaneous act. The sky itself, which becomes a metaphor for our inner sky, appears wounded and in need of care and dedication. The gesture of sewing, or better, of re-sewing, wants to underline on the one hand even a humble action, daily, of difficult work, on the other, an impossible act that is carried out on a perennial cut, but maybe, precisely for this reason, more necessary than ever.
