More and more attracted to "symbolic" themes and subjects, Diego Dutto's work is progressively evolving, moving away from what in recent years has made his research recognizable. From a bestiary ideal inspired by archaic animals to subjects that bring the mind back to «virtues and mythical values, legendary, almost extinct ".
The themes of which his hybrid creatures are spokespersons are so well known as to seem rhetorical but stimulate, instead, the artist's mind to compete with contemporary language with extreme synthesis and communicative strength. [Francesca Di Giorgio]

The artist's production looks like a submerged universe, returned to light after millennia, putting into play the very concept of evolution, a stance on contemporary reality and an awareness of the grandeur of the past. The choice of animal figures such as the sea turtle is no coincidence, the manta ray and the chimera because in addition to having in common a millenary and legendary history, they all have rounded tapered shapes that fit into geometric shapes, curved lines and straight lines, soft and rigid, and so on. They all have a sense of speed and it seems, from their biomechanical structures, that can fly without borders between the sea, terra, sky and space, capable of traveling across any water or land surface. They perform natural actions but at the same time become artificial in our eyes because they manage to combine lightness and dynamism through this symbiosis of life and non-life.. Therefore, the boundary of what appears to be real and what appears artificial becomes a truly invisible boundary line. [Enrico Mattei]
