In this volume, edited by Matteo Bergamini, photographic research is presented A museum after, created by Luca Gilli in collaboration with the Confluence gallery in Nantes and the Société des Amis du Musée des Beaux-Arts (SAMBA) of Nantes.
“When Luca Gilli came to exhibit in Nantes starting from 2012 at the Confluence gallery, the Musée des Beaux Arts had already started the transformation that would lead it to become the current Musée d'art. The artist returns between 2014 and the 2016 to photograph the construction site. Even though six years passed between the closure and reopening of the museum (from 2011 to the 2017), in order to completely renovate the building 1900, create a new basement, build an extension dedicated to contemporary art and an additional building to house the library and the graphic arts cabinet, without forgetting the renovation of the Chapelle de l'Oratoire, and if various photographers have documented the different stages of this colossal architectural work, museographic and collections, Luca Gilli came to Nantes with a goal of his own: use the place, look at it in a certain way, take or reveal something from it.
Scrolling through the images, there is no doubt that these twenty-six photographs are indeed works by Luca Gilli. We find those places-spaces-pictures there, where nothing is taken away, nothing added, but through the techniques of photography, the framing, the duration and intensity of exposure, a pictorial form (point of view, structure, color, equilibrium) it organizes itself with a thoughtful splendor”.
