Milan | M.A.C. Music Art Culture | 24 and 25 November 2018

The 24 and the 25 November 2018 the M.A.C. Music Art Culture of Milan hosts Spicaisa. Two left hands, an event dedicated to the new project of the artistic duo Spicaisa, so called from the fusion of the names of the artists Isabella Mandelli (Monza, 1969) and Pietro Spica (Dolo, 1953). From 2015 they paint watercolors together, intervening simultaneously on the same papers. In this way they develop not only an original language, but they give life to a fantastic world resulting from the fusion of two mutually complementary visions. The creative process of the artists, both left-handed, is documented, as well as some backstage photos taken by Claudio Sforza, also from a video-projection that explains their simultaneous work made of brushes and colors.

On display are a selection of watercolors and acrylics produced by Pietro Spica alone during his long artistic career, and twenty-seven works by the Spicaisa duo, mostly belonging to the series Cities and Dialogues. The artists' imagery is both real and dreamlike, with an invented or reversed perspective. It evokes a sense of lightness and gives space to utopia. The landscape is half marine and half celestial; the cities are inhabited by fantastic animals such as the giraffe; the clouds turn into turtles, with a reference to Escher free from worry. As Pietro Spica states, it is precisely the watercolor technique itself that favors a Zen approach, as it is the result of a delicate alchemy between color and water, intentionality and improvisation.

During the opening night on Saturday 24 November will be the writer Andrea De Carlo.
