Volume published on the occasion of the exhibition Stefania Loreto. Inhabited by a cry, edited by Gabriele Cordì, 8 march - 22 March 2026, Park Palace – Room "R. Hawks ", Diano Marina (IM).
If the male monster embodies the fear of excess and violence, the monstrous feminine reveals something deeper: the patriarchal terror of a woman who does not obey, which is not domesticated, which is not defined by the gaze and desire of man. Starting from this disturbing imagery, Stefania Loreto's engravings portray the female figures of classical mythology as conscious and disturbing subjects. Indomitable and lucid women, made so by the narration that handed them over to history, incapable – or unwilling – to submit to an imposed order. An excess force emerges from this tension and resonates with Sylvia Plath's famous verse, «I am inhabited by a cry»: a body inhabited by a cry, by a pulsating energy that cannot be resolved, but it persists, digging from the inside.
