Laura Garden. The light beyond

Published on the occasion of the exhibition “Laura Giardino. The light beyond ", curated by Elena Pontiggia, 19 September – 31 October 16 December 2020, AreaB, Milan.

The protagonist of Laura Giardino's new pictorial cycle is the city of Milan, not in his best known and most recognizable face, but in its "private" views, horizon of the artist's nocturnal walks.
There remain some fixed points that make up his stylistic code. In particular, the anti-naturalistic use of light: an artificial and nocturnal light that, curiously, it doesn't make cityscapes gloomy, but lively and brilliant, as if the darkness made the colors stand out with greater force. A light that is beyond, and that comes from a beyond elusive.
The human figure disappears o, better, is fully taken over by those who observe the work.
The subjects depicted contribute to creating the tension towards an indefinite "beyond". It is indeed, almost always, of inputs, door, windows. Thresholds, real and metaphorical, which represent the boundary between public and private, between what is known to all and what is known only to a few.
Each canvas remains open to a dimension that the observer is not allowed to see, but only to imagine.

The painter's room - Elements of contemporary painting is an editorial series that narrates and collects the testimonies of contemporary painters who, at various levels, they are indicative of the evolution and topicality of the pictorial language, giving voice both to the Masters and to the mid-career artists as well as to the young promises who are confronted with this medium.
