Photography Calabria Festival 2025 – IV edition

For the IV edition of the Calabria Festival photography, the theme “Common roots: places" invites us to explore how the places we live in and cross are an extension of the roots that bind us, not only to the past, but also to our collective and personal identity. The places thus become a meeting points between our individual and collective history, custodians of visible and invisible bonds, that tell belonging, evolution and change. On the one hand, There are physical and geographical places - City, landscapes, building, small spaces, abandoned places - which are so familiar and present in our lives that they push us to document them, celebrarli, crystallize them, or to give them for granted, To then rediscover them suddenly. On the other side, There are preconceived ideas and clichés that we associate with certain places, which influence our way of perceiving them, live them or ignore them. And again, There are imaginary places: spaces that do not belong to physical reality, but who live in the mind of those who manage to generate them, while reflecting shared ideas and visions.

Each landscape, Each building, Every urban or rural space - even the one that appears most trivial or forgotten - is rooted in a memory that defines it. Photographs, On this visual journey, they tell these common roots: that profound connection that binds us to the places we live in, but also to those we have lost, removed or that exist only in our dreams and perceptions.
