The catalog is published on the occasion of Maurizio L’Altrella's solo exhibition "As in heaven so on earth" at the Galleria Bianca Maria Rizzi & Matthias Ritter, January – March 2015.
If its previous production (and we are talking about the two-year period 2013/2014) was centered on the mystical "transfiguration" of almost subsistent animals in a "magical" and ancestral aura, now anthropomorphic elements in the process of appearing dominate the scene, anatomical parts of subjects not visible in their physical integrity and with human reminiscence, or better, quasi-human: in the transition from the non-human to the quasi-human sphere they denote the legendary figures of the "giants" of Old Testament mythopoiesis, Greek and Germanic (whose referent perhaps most famous in the history of Western art is The colossus by Francisco Goya), "Mammoth reminiscences" that in the new pictorial series by Maurizio L’Altrella perform the strongly symbolic function of "bridge" between earth and sky.
